Ignore Lucia's Goodnight Text in GTA VI at Your Own Risk

Rockstar North's Rob Nelson explains texts, hand-holding and why skipping a reply can cost you.

Jason and Lucia's relationship is something you play, not just watch. In IGN's interview published on 7 October, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said that when you spend the day apart, the other character may text that they are heading to bed. A quick "OK, goodnight" is enough, but not replying at all "may impact your relationship a bit."

Hold R2 to hold hands

Nelson said holding hands is done by holding R2. He counted robbing places together, walking, going to a zoo, studying animals, scuba diving, parachuting, walking on the beach and kayaking as quality time for the couple.

No romance bonus

Asked whether romance brings a gameplay advantage, Nelson said there is no particular gameplay benefit he could think of. Jason and Lucia remain partners in crime and work together whether or not they are romantically close.

Safehouses that feel like home

Nelson described the safehouses as closer to the camps in Red Dead Redemption 2 than to earlier GTA safehouses. There you can make simple hair changes, such as cutting it shorter or shaving it off; new styles need a hair salon or barber.

Keep in mind

IGN says it saw this demo at Rockstar North in July 2026, so details shown there could still change before launch.
